how living across europe changed the way I design journey

“Buongiorno my friend, what time is your flight?”

That was the first thing my driver asked me as I stepped into the parking area on my way to the airport for one of my solo recitals, this time traveling from Milan to Málaga.

“In two hours”, I replied in polite Italian.

“Plenty of time, amico, let us have a coffee, my treat.”

One of those moments that cannot be planned, yet stays with you for a long time. Italy has always given me these kinds of encounters, small gestures that feel unexpectedly generous and human. After five years living in Turin as a Dutchman, it quietly reshaped my understanding of my personal life and presence.

Living as a Temporary Local, Not Just a Visitor

There is no better way to describe the essence of Italian travel than in the words of James Boswell in 1765 when writing to Jean Jacques Rousseau

“Nine months in this delicious country have done more for me than all the sage lessons which books, or men formed by books, could have taught me. It was my imagination that needed correction, and nothing but travel could have produced this effect.”

For the past two decades I have lived much of my life on the road as a professional musician, learning how to move through cultures not only as a visitor but as a temporary resident and a colleague

I have lived in seven European countries and spent over two years in New York, where I built lasting friendships across the East Coast. I now bring that experience into my work as a travel advisor, with a deep understanding of what an American traveler often seeks. We at Sarasota Cruise Agency and DeSalvio Travel are affiliated with Virtuoso, a global network focused on luxury and experiential travel.

The Meaning Behind Authentic Travel Experiences

My goal is to help you see Europe not only as a destination but as a lived experience with many layers. I design journeys that follow the natural rhythm of place, such as how dinner in Spain begins at a time when a German kitchen would already be closed, or how a local artisan in Provence might invite you into a private workshop to shape clay or prepare wild herbs for an unforgettable dinner.

Avoiding Common Travel Pitfalls with Expert Guidance

Even the most beautiful regions have their small challenges. Without guidance it is easy to miss the details that define a journey, a restaurant that does not meet local standards, a train connection misread, or a hotel that looks different from expectation. When you travel with Sarasota Cruise Agency, these moments are carefully avoided so your experience remains genuine and meaningful.

Combining Iconic Sights with Hidden Places

We combine the beauty of essential landmarks, such as the Alhambra in Granada or the Duomo in Milan, with places that reveal themselves only through local understanding. You experience both the places everyone knows and the quieter corners that rarely appear in guidebooks and with the expert guidance of us and our local partners.

Curated Local Experiences for the Senses

For those drawn to art, history, music, or literature, I offer curated suggestions that shape a journey into a full sensory experience, where each day feels connected and alive

Personalized Journeys Designed for You. We specialised in these specific topics as we find that intertwining your voyage with all these cultural aspects enhances your trip tremendously.

Travel is not only about where you go, but how a place stays with you, only through these interactions will you have lasting memories to tell to your loved ones.

Let us design a journey that moves beyond a standard itinerary. Schedule a private consultation with Sarasota Cruise Agency and let us create your European story!
